Bordeaux is a wine region in France shaped by the Gironde, Garonne and Dordogne. The Left Bank brings together Cabernet and gravel in the Médoc, while Graves and Pessac-Léognan also make dry whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Across the Dordogne, Merlot and Cabernet Franc take the lead on clay, limestone and sand. Entre-Deux-Mers is known for dry whites, while Sauternes and Barsac use botrytis to make sweet wines from Sémillon. Bordeaux contains several distinct wine styles, and the rivers help explain where each one belongs.
