The Producer

During the difficult 2013 Bordeaux vintage, Château Rocheyron declassified its entire crop and made no wine. Silvio Denz and Peter Sisseck share management of the Saint-Émilion château, a partnership that began in 2010. Sisseck is a Danish winemaker known for founding Pingus in Spain's Ribera del Duero.

The estate works with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Its wines show red fruit, fine grained tannins and capacity to age over multiple decades.

Place

Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau is the physical setting for Château Rocheyron in Bordeaux. Saint-Émilion is the appellation on the bottle, while Grand Cru is the designation attached to the 2022 wine. Limestone can drain excess water while retaining reserves for vines, supporting steady ripening through dry periods.

Wines

Château Rocheyron Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2022 is a red wine made from the estate's Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The baseline blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with proportions varying by vintage. Low temperature vinification in temperature controlled concrete vats is followed by French oak barrel ageing. The 2022 vintage has velvety tannins. Across the producer's wines, red fruit and fine grained tannins combine with capacity to age over multiple decades.

Final Word

Château Rocheyron has a missing vintage in 2013, when the entire crop was declassified and no wine was made. The 2022 wine carries the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru designation.
