The Producer

Château La Lagune was established in 1587, making it one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Its modern history includes a full vineyard recovery. When George Brunet purchased the property in 1958, only five hectares remained planted with vines. He rescued and revived the estate.

The Frey family acquired Château La Lagune and Champagne Ayala in 2000. Caroline Frey managed estate operations from 2004 until July 2025. The property therefore carries a long history, a documented revival, and a later period under Frey family ownership.

Place

Ludon is a commune in the Haut Médoc of Bordeaux. Château La Lagune's vineyards occupy gravelly hilltop terrain. Gravel drains water quickly and warms in sunlight, conditions that can help red grapes ripen while limiting excess water around the roots.

Wines

The range has two named wines. Château La Lagune is the principal wine, while Moulin du Château La Lagune is the second wine.

Château La Lagune uses French oak selected by grape variety. Six coopers supply the barrels: Taransaud and Saury for Cabernet Sauvignon, Bernard and Quintessence for Merlot, and Boutes and Sylvain for Petit Verdot. Moulin places Merlot at the centre of its composition, with 50 percent of the blend devoted to the grape.

In The Glass

Moulin du Château La Lagune is approachable and fruity from its early years. Château La Lagune spends its élevage in French oak. Barrel ageing generally gives red wine gradual oxygen exposure and wood spice, while allowing tannins to soften over time.

The two wines therefore occupy different positions in the range. Moulin is made for early approachability, while Château La Lagune receives a longer period of French oak ageing before release.

A Bottle To Understand It

Choose Moulin du Château La Lagune. It is the second wine, with 50 percent Merlot, and that composition places it in the range's earlier drinking role. Château La Lagune itself ages for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels.

Final Word

Château La Lagune uses massal selection, a traditional technique for parcel blending and climate adaptation.
