The Producer

Château de Fieuzal is a Grand Cru Classé estate in the Graves classification, located at 124 Avenue de Mont Marsan in Léognan. Brenda and Lochlann Quinn have owned the property since 2001.

Average production is 24,000 cases of red wine and 3,500 cases of white wine per vintage. The estate makes two colours of Bordeaux from one property, with the classification placing it among the classified growths of Graves.

Place

Léognan is the commune in the estate's address, while Pessac-Léognan names the appellation used for the wine. Graves names the classification, so the label carries both the regional appellation and the older classification system.

The location supports a range built around red and white Bordeaux. Château de Fieuzal's red wine is the more fully detailed expression in the available vintages, while the white wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.

Wines

Château de Fieuzal 2023 is made from 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine is aged for 14 to 18 months, with 35% new oak. Its nose shows red plum, gravel and green fig.

The white wines use 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon. The range therefore moves between an oak-aged red led by Merlot and a white wine built around Sauvignon Blanc with Sémillon alongside it.

Final Word

The red wine is bigger and sturdier than most Graves and can be hard in youth. The named vintage has a drinking window from 2026 to 2046.
