The Producer
Christian Moueix acquired Château La Grave à Pomerol in 1971 as his first vineyard purchase. The estate's vineyard is planted chiefly to Merlot, with Cabernet Franc as the second grape variety. Its wine is delicate, with ripe red fruit and a silky texture and is approachable even when young.
Place
The estate stands on the western side of the plateau of Pomerol. Its terroir is almost pure gravel, and those gravelly soils contribute poise and linearity to the wine. The estate name and the wine's appellation both use Pomerol.
Wines
Château La Grave à Pomerol Trigant de Boisset 2018 is a red Pomerol wine from the estate. The estate produces approximately 3,500 cases each year. The 2018 vintage was fermented in thermoregulated cement tanks, then aged for 20 months in French oak, with 20% of the barrels new. Its profile is complex and balanced, with roasted oak, black currant, plum, coffee, cedar, dark chocolate and vanilla.
Final Word
The estate's defining wine is a Merlot led Pomerol red with Cabernet Franc in support, made on gravelly ground.
