The Producer

The Castéja family acquired Château Peyrabon in September 2022 from Millésima and the Bernard family. Through BCAP, the family already owned Batailley and Lynch Moussas, both 1855 fifth growths in the Médoc.

Château Peyrabon is the Haut Médoc wine, while La Fleur Peyrabon carries the Pauillac name. The estate therefore works with two Bordeaux appellations and two label addresses. La Fleur Peyrabon places Cabernet Sauvignon at the centre of its blend, supported by Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Place

The vineyard sits on a gravelly ridge a few kilometres from Pauillac in the Médoc. Gravel drains water and warms quickly, conditions commonly associated with Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux. The nearby Pauillac name appears on La Fleur Peyrabon, while Château Peyrabon carries the Haut Médoc appellation.

Wines

The range divides between Château Peyrabon from Haut Médoc and La Fleur Peyrabon from Pauillac. La Fleur Peyrabon is composed of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon brings cassis and tannin, Merlot fills the middle of the palate, and Petit Verdot contributes colour and spice.

The wines receive oak maturation before release. Oak can add toast and spice, while gradual oxygen exposure helps soften tannin. In La Fleur Peyrabon, the Cabernet led blend and oak treatment create a firm, dark fruited Bordeaux profile.

Final Word

Château Peyrabon joins a gravelly Médoc ridge with two Bordeaux label addresses. Château Peyrabon is Haut Médoc, while La Fleur Peyrabon is Pauillac and Cabernet Sauvignon led.
