Provence is France's Mediterranean wine region, best known for pale rosé but not limited to it. Côtes de Provence supplies much of that familiar style, using Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Rolle. Bandol takes Mourvèdre in a darker, savoury direction, while Cassis has a coastal white-wine identity. Near Aix, Palette remains a tiny historic appellation, and Les Baux-de-Provence pairs limestone and olive trees with structured inland reds.
