The Producer

A sheepfold built in 1492 and carved from rock houses Château Demonpère's cellar. The estate works across rosé and red wines in Provence. Rosé production begins with an early morning harvest to preserve cool temperatures, followed by selective pressing at very low pressure, static clarification and fermentation in temperature controlled vats.

Place

Provence is a southeastern French region with a strong tradition of rosé. At La Pardiguière in Le Luc, Château Demonpère makes a Côtes de Provence rosé named Notre Dames des Anges. Its rosé grapes are Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, with smaller quantities of Syrah.

Wines

The rosé range includes Notre Dames des Anges 2021 and Cuvée Prestige. The 2021 wine has a translucent flesh colored appearance, with guava, elderflower and pastry notes. Its palate balances roundness with freshness, followed by a minty touch that extends the aromatic richness.

Cuvée Prestige rosé contains 75% Grenache, 20% Cinsault and 5% Mourvèdre. It opens with white fruit, has fine persistence, and is soft, silky, round and fruity on the palate.

The red wines are based primarily on Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. The Notre Dames des Anges red line features mainly Syrah with Grenache, and part of it is aged in oak barrels.

Final Word

Château Demonpère combines Provence rosé grapes, careful low pressure pressing and red wines based mainly on Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Its cellar occupies a rock carved sheepfold built in 1492.
