The Producer
The company targets annual production of 2.5 million bottles and plans to double that capacity. Its current corporate form follows a July 2017 transaction, when Castel Group acquired a 50 percent stake in the Listel joint venture. The business was subsequently rebranded as Grands Domaines du Littoral.
Place
Château La Gordonne lies in Pierrefeu-du-Var, where its vineyard extends across approximately 300 hectares. The estate produces wines under Côtes de Provence and Côtes de Provence Pierrefeu, placing its bottles at both regional and more specific appellation level.
Wines
The range includes La Gordonne Multi-Millésime, a Côtes de Provence rosé, and La Chapelle Gordonne 2019, a Côtes de Provence Pierrefeu rosé. La Chapelle Gordonne 2019 occupies the more specific Pierrefeu position and is described as fresh on the palate.
In The Glass
La Chapelle Gordonne 2019 shows a translucent lychee pink colour, with floral and amylic aromas. It opens tart and acidic, then moves into a fine palate before ending warmer and slightly sweet. The wine's shape runs from brisk acidity to a softer close.
A Bottle To Understand It
Choose La Gordonne Multi-Millésime. It carries the broader Côtes de Provence designation, while La Chapelle Gordonne 2019 carries Côtes de Provence Pierrefeu. The choice starts with the regional appellation before moving to the estate's more specific Pierrefeu bottling.
Final Word
Grands Domaines du Littoral joins a large Provence company to Château La Gordonne's rosé estate in Pierrefeu-du-Var, with bottles spanning two Côtes de Provence designations.
