The Producer

Eloi Dürrbach planted the first vines at Domaine de Trévallon in 1973. He based the red planting on equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, an unconventional blend for the region. The first Trévallon vintage followed in 1976.

The vineyard has been farmed organically from the beginning. Today, approximately 15 hectares are divided among more than 40 parcels, planted entirely from massal selections. Two hectares of Marsanne and Roussanne were added in the 1990s for a white wine.

For the reds, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah ferment separately for three weeks in open-top wooden tonneaux, without destemming, added SO2 or cultured yeasts. Each variety then matures for almost two years, with 80% in foudres and the remainder in barriques. The wines receive one racking during élevage.

After appellation rules changed in 1993, the Cabernet-dominant wines were labelled IGP Bouches-du-Rhône. René Dürrbach's label series began with the 1996 vintage. Following Eloi Dürrbach's death in November 2021, Ostiane and Antoine took over while maintaining his philosophy.

Wines

Domaine de Trévallon Rouge 2022 combines 50% Syrah with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvest began with Syrah on 29 August and concluded with Cabernet Sauvignon on 16 September. The wine is fresh and balanced, with less than 13% alcohol.

The 2020 Rouge follows the same equal blend. It has pronounced vivacity and fine tannins, with crushed strawberry, black olive and eucalyptus notes. Supple in youth, it can age for many years.
