Languedoc

Languedoc is a large Mediterranean wine region in France, with limestone, schist, coast, terraces and cooler foothills all in the mix. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan shape many reds, while Limoux contributes white and sparkling wines. Pic Saint-Loup, Terrasses du Larzac, Faugères, Corbières and Limoux give the region its different accents.

Languedoc stretches from Gard and Hérault into Aude, over limestone, schist, coastal hills, inland terraces and cooler foothills. Its reds often rest on Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, while Limoux and the coast add white and sparkling wines. The details lie in the named places: limestone and freshness at Pic Saint-Loup, altitude at Terrasses du Larzac, schist and old vines in Faugères and Saint-Chinian, rugged blends in Corbières and Minervois, sea influence at La Clape, and acidity and sparkling wine in Limoux.
