The Producer

Six white grape varieties share one bottle in Claude Val Blanc. The blend contains 35% Grenache Blanc, 25% Vermentino, 20% Chenin Blanc, 10% Chasan, 5% Mauzac and 5% Sauvignon Blanc. Domaines Claude Val is a sub brand within the Domaines Paul Mas portfolio, positioned as an accessible line.

Claude Val Blanc carries the VdP d'Oc designation and comes from selected vineyards. Its defining choice is visible in the composition: several white grape varieties combined in one regional wine.

Place

Domaines Claude Val is placed in Languedoc Roussillon, while Claude Val Blanc carries the VdP d'Oc designation. The label uses a regional category rather than a named village. The vineyards sit in a Mediterranean climate influenced by Atlantic Ocean breezes, placing the wine in a warm southern setting with regular ocean airflow.

Soil And Site

Clay gravel soil gives the vineyards two practical properties. Clay holds water, while gravel lets excess water drain and can store heat. In a Mediterranean climate, those conditions support ripening, while Atlantic breezes add airflow as the grapes mature. The wine begins with selected sites where water retention, drainage and wind exposure work together.

Story

In 1992, Jean-Claude Mas met Italian winemaker Giorgio Grai in Bordeaux. Grai became his mentor and taught him the art of blending wines with style. Jean-Claude Mas made his first bottled vintage at Nicole Estate in 1995. Domaines Paul Mas was formally established in 2000. Claude Val sits within that portfolio, with Claude Val Blanc presented as a regional white blend.

Vineyards And Cellar

Claude Val Blanc is sourced from selected vineyards with clay gravel soil. The white varieties are combined into one finished wine. Blending brings separate grape contributions into a single cuvée, allowing Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Chenin Blanc, Chasan, Mauzac and Sauvignon Blanc to share the same bottle. The method leaves the grape composition visible on the label.

Wines

Claude Val Blanc is the named white wine in the range. It carries VdP d'Oc and uses several white grape varieties, placing it in the accessible line of the Domaines Paul Mas portfolio. The wine's range role is a regional white built around a blended grape composition.

In The Glass

Claude Val Blanc opens with citrus, tropical fruit and white flowers. Crisp pear, green apple, peach and honeysuckle add detail to the nose. On the palate, the wine is fruity, rich and lively, with a creamy feel and a balanced finish. The aftertaste is long, fresh and marked by the same fruit driven character.

A Bottle To Understand It

Claude Val Blanc is the bottle to open first from Domaines Claude Val. It is a white VdP d'Oc whose grape varieties are combined in one regional blend, led by Grenache Blanc and Vermentino, with Chenin Blanc, Chasan, Mauzac and Sauvignon Blanc alongside them. The regional label and varied composition keep the producer's central wine choice visible from the first pour.

Anecdote

At age three, during harvest, Jean-Claude Mas escaped from his mother and ran 2.5 kilometers to find his grandfather working in the family cellar. He went looking for his grandfather among the activity of the vintage and reached him in the cellar. The moment marked Jean-Claude Mas's lifelong passion for winemaking.

Final Word

Claude Val is a regional white wine built from several grape varieties and sourced from clay gravel vineyards in a Mediterranean climate influenced by Atlantic breezes.
