The Producer
Pierre Piquemal was passionate about wine like his two grandfathers and contributed to establishing the modern Domaine Piquemal. Marie-Pierre and Cédric now rely on that established expertise to maintain the quality of their wines. Vineyard work includes maintaining vegetation cover, using pheromone dispensers and maintaining hedges as part of biodiversity management.
Place
The estate extends across 48 hectares of slopes in the Agly Valley, within the foothills of the Corbières. Its wines carry the Côtes du Roussillon appellation across white, red and rosé bottles. The range therefore moves through several colours and grape compositions under one regional appellation.
Wines
Les Terres Grillées Blanc is a white blend of 50 percent Grenache Blanc, 40 percent Macabeu and 10 percent Vermentino. Pygmalion is a red blend of 75 percent Syrah, 20 percent Grenache and 5 percent Carignan. Les Terres Grillées Rouge uses 65 percent Syrah, 20 percent Grenache and 15 percent Carignan.
The range also includes Les Terres Grillées Rosé and Domaine Piquemal Tradition. In Les Terres Grillées Rouge, the Syrah ages six months in oak barrels while the Grenache and Carignan age in vats. Oak ageing allows measured oxygen exposure and can add spice and texture, while vat ageing keeps the fruit profile more direct.
Final Word
Domaine Piquemal is an Agly Valley domaine where Côtes du Roussillon wines sit alongside organic agriculture and biodiversity focused vineyard work.
