Central Plateau brings together La Mancha and Ribera del Guadiana, two wine areas with distinct conditions and rules. La Mancha spreads across broad, flat, dry ground, with strong continental temperature shifts, limited rainfall and long sunshine hours. Its documented vineyard history reaches the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and many producers were established after 1940.

Ribera del Guadiana lies in Extremadura near Portugal. This Denominación de Origen has six subzones, and its regulations set the permitted grape varieties, production areas, use of subzone names and ageing requirements for red Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines.
