The Producer

The Cantarero Rodríguez family acquired the property in the middle of the 20th century. Before that, the old farm belonged to descendants of Queen Maria Christina, widow of Ferdinand VII. Finca La Estacada began from the family's interest in winemaking.

The estate takes its name from the plot where it stands, La Estacada, a place linked to Roman origins. Milestones found on the property are associated with the road between Segóbriga and Completum, modern Alcalá de Henares. The winery uses its vineyard fruit to make wine, with modern equipment intended to maintain hygienic conditions and explore the character of each grape variety.

Place

The winery stands on the N 400 at kilometre 103 in Tarancón, Cuenca. Tarancón supplies the geographic origin, while the wines keep their grape names clear: Tempranillo for the red and Chardonnay for the white. The place name also carries the estate's Roman association through the land and the milestones found there.

Wines

The range divides cleanly by colour and grape. Finca La Estacada Tempranillo 2023 is a red made entirely from Tempranillo. Viginti Chardonnay is a white made entirely from Chardonnay and matured in stainless steel tank.

Viginti has a youthful, fruit driven nose. Its fresh flavours include tropical fruit, honeydew melon and citrus, while the palate also shows a mineral character. Stainless steel ageing adds no oak flavour, allowing the fruit and grape character to remain direct.

Final Word

Finca La Estacada combines the Cantarero Rodríguez family property with a Roman linked place name and a range led by Tempranillo and Chardonnay.
