Montenegro

Montenegro’s wine map moves from the Adriatic coast and Lake Skadar into the country’s central and northern interior. Warmth, limestone and mountain influence meet at close range, with Vranac providing the clearest red-wine thread through this compact landscape.

The regions of Montenegro

Choose a region to read its guide, then move closer through its named subregions.

  1. 01Coastal MontenegroNo producers listed yetCoastal Montenegro follows the Adriatic beneath steep mountains, from the Croatian border to the Albanian border. Mild winters, sunny summers and sea breezes shape this stretch of coast, while most commercial vineyards are concentrated around Ulcinj.
  2. 02Lake Skadar And Central1 producerMontenegro's largest wine region lies between Podgorica and Lake Skadar, where vineyards run across low alluvial plains, karst terrain and terraced slopes. The lake and surrounding mountains moderate a Mediterranean climate with continental influence. Vranac leads the red grapes, while Krstač is among the local white varieties.
  3. 03NiksicNo producers listed yetWithin Nikšić's administrative area, Nudo lies in the Zaslapnica River valley, separate from Montenegro's other wine zones. Its 1.85 hectares of registered vines are concentrated around Javor, where Žilavka grows alongside Vranac, Kratošija, Rhine Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon.
