Nikšić is listed as a wine region of Montenegro. Its most closely documented vineyards lie in Nudo, in the Zaslapnica River valley within the Nikšić administrative area and apart from the country's other wine zones. Nudo has 1.85 hectares of registered vines, concentrated around Javor at 400 to 500 metres. Žilavka is the leading native variety, with Vranac and Kratošija planted alongside Rhine Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. The area's altitude, climate and soils favour earlier-ripening grapes and varieties that tolerate low temperatures. Traditional and modern vineyards also differ in planting density.
