Odesa has continental and maritime influences, with salt estuaries and southern black soils part of its terroir. Chardonnay, Muscat, Traminer, Cabernet, Bastardo and Pinot Noir are among the region's plantings. South of Odesa, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi is a historic wine area. Odesa's wine history is linked to Greek colonies on the Northern Black Sea around 600 BC, though cultivated grapes in what is now Ukraine predate any simple story of Greek introduction.
