Sliven is part of Bulgaria's Rose Valley wine area. The municipality rises from roughly 180 to 300 metres and has mild winters, relatively warm summers and a transitional-continental climate. The local Bora wind is another notable feature. Sliven is also a protected designation of origin for wine.
