Rose Valley lies between the Balkan Mountains and Sredna Gora, in the western part of Bulgaria's Sub-Balkan wine region. Rose gardens and rose-oil production are central to its public identity, but Red Misket is the grape to know for wine. It is associated with aromatic white wines that lean toward finesse rather than weight.
Sungurlare is particularly associated with dry and semi-dry Red Misket. Nova Zagora offers another route into the region through sparkling wine described as creamy, fresh and mineral, with a round body. Sliven, Shivachevo, Bolyarovo, Yambol and Sungurlare are protected wine names. That status identifies geographic origin, rather than promising a single flavour profile. Start with Red Misket, then look at the stated style and place name.
