Loei

The Loei wine region centres on the Phu Ruea highlands in northeast Thailand, along the Loei River near Laos. Vineyards lie at about 600 to 800 metres, where conditions are cooler. Wines include whites made from Chenin Blanc and Colombard and reds made from Syrah, also called Shiraz.

Winegrowing in Loei centres on Phu Ruea in northeast Thailand. The Phurua Highlands follow the Loei River near the Laos border, with vineyards at about 600 to 800 metres in cooler conditions. Château de Loei began in 1991, with Chenin Blanc and Syrah as its principal grapes. Phu Ruea Highland Winery grows Shiraz, another name for Syrah, along with the white grapes Chenin Blanc and Colombard. Harvest usually runs from January to March; November to February is the cooler season.
