Belgrade's vineyard region sits around the Serbian capital and includes five areas: Avala-Kosmaj, Grocka, Smederevo, Dubona and Lazarevac. It is a group of vineyard areas, not a single uniform pocket. Local wine history reaches back roughly two millennia and carries Roman-era associations.
Prokupac and Tamjanika are the native grapes most closely associated with Belgrade's wine context. Prokupac-based reds are described as bold and strongly flavoured, while Tamjanika makes fragrant wines. The Belgrade Winery Association describes itself as the officially recognized guardian of the region's geographical-origin and quality mark.
