Samson, also called Shimshon, covers the central coastal plain, the Shefela and the Judean Foothills west of the Judean Hills. It lies southeast of Tel Aviv and includes Mazkeret Batya and Gedera.
The coast is low and relatively flat, but hot and humid, with Mediterranean sea breezes. Sandy loam and alluvial soils are associated with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Samson also has Syrah. Coastal wines are described as fresh and aromatic.
Further inland, the Judean Foothills rise in rolling ground toward the higher Judean Hills. Quality-focused planting expanded into the foothills. Samson has long been associated with bulk wine, though improvement is especially linked to its inland areas.
