Vineyards in Savoie sit below peaks, beside lakes and on limestone or glacial slopes. Jacquère provides a light, crisp starting point for the whites. Altesse, known as Roussette, has more texture, with honey, nuts and a longer finish. Gringet is closely tied to Ayze and Domaine Belluard. Mondeuse makes peppery, structured reds with grip and freshness unusual in a cool region.

Freshness runs through Savoie, though the best wines have more weight than their lightness first suggests. Domaine des Ardoisières changed the conversation about what the region could produce with schist-farmed Jacquère and local white varieties of mineral precision. Chignin, Apremont, Arbin, Crépy and Ripaille give labels increasing detail, from appellation to village to slope.
