Pays Nantais lies around Nantes at the Loire's Atlantic edge. Muscadet is its main white wine, made from Melon de Bourgogne, especially in Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine. The first communal crus were approved by INAO in 2011. These smaller named wine areas included Clisson, Gorges and Le Pallet, with selected vineyards on granite and gneiss. Their names give a more specific origin than the broader Muscadet appellation.
