Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages are broad regional appellations for Gamay reds. The wines are usually lighter and more fruit-forward than those from the crus, the named village appellations, often with red fruit, floral aromas and low tannin. Try serving them slightly cool. Chardonnay also grows near the Mâconnais border and makes white wine in this predominantly red-wine area. Domaine du Vissoux, Jean-Paul Brun and Domaine Cheveau are among the producers working with these regional appellations.
