Cochabamba's vineyards lie at reported elevations of 1,600 to 2,850 metres. In Valle Alto, vines grow at about 2,800 metres across Arani, San Benito, Villa Ribero, Cliza, Arbieto, Tolata and Tarata. Mizque, Vinto, Sipe Sipe and Capinota are other named wine areas.
Wine and singani are made from grapes here. Valle Alto grows Moscatel, Tannat, Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Italia and Ribier. Sipe Sipe grows Malbec, Moscatel de Alejandría, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, producing red wine, semi-sweet rosé and white wines, and Tannat styles. A local producer makes a sweet Port-style wine from partially fermented Cabernet Sauvignon fortified with singani.
Traditional artisanal production sits alongside newer boutique work. In late 2012, Valle Alto pioneer Macario Álvarez Reque planted 1,000 vines in Arani, beginning the area's current vineyard expansion.
