The Producer
Harvest is entirely manual at Mas de Boislauzon, and grapes are sorted in the vineyard. The family history extends across six generations. Christine and Daniel, the fifth generation, manage the estate with Quentin, Joris and Arnaud, the sixth generation.
The domaine has farmed organically since 2012 and has chosen biodynamic farming since 2021. It prefers mechanical cultivation of the soil and gives particular attention to pruning and green work such as debudding and leaf removal.
Place
Orange is the home of Mas de Boislauzon, in the Boislauzon district. The estate covers 34 hectares: 12 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 20 hectares in Côtes du Rhône Villages and 2 hectares in Vin de France.
Its Châteauneuf-du-Pape holdings are divided into 15 parcels, including sectors named Boislauzon, Cabrières, La Gardiole, Palestor and Pignan. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottle carries the most specific appellation name in the estate's holdings, while Côtes du Rhône Villages and Vin de France cover broader categories.
Wines
The estate's red wines draw on Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan. Its white wines use Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Clairette.
Cuvée du Quet is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape red from Mas de Boislauzon. The 2022 vintage is an organic wine at 15 percent alcohol. Among the red grapes, the oldest and most prized Mourvèdre vines average about 70 years of age. Élevage varies by wine and grape variety, using tanks and small oak barrels.
Final Word
Whole clusters remain with the grapes during alcoholic fermentation in traditional cement vats. This method keeps stems in the vat, where they can contribute tannin and spice. Élevage varies between tanks and small oak barrels, and the family bottles its wines at the winery. Vineyard and cellar operations follow a lunar calendar.
