The Producer
At the former Ursulines convent in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Jean-Claude Boisset operates as a Burgundy négociant. Jean-Claude Boisset founded the estate in 1961. Grégory Patriat became winemaker in 2002, an appointment that substantially raised the house's quality standards.
The range includes regional Bourgogne wines, village and premier cru bottles, and Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. That grand cru designation identifies a top Burgundy vineyard classification. The Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has won the International Wine Challenge “Clos de la Roche” Trophy five times.
Place
Nuits-Saint-Georges is the home of Maison Jean-Claude Boisset, while the range extends across Burgundy labels from Bourgogne to village, premier cru and grand cru levels. The current wines include Nuits-Saint-Georges, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Chambolle-Musigny and Santenay.
Bourgogne names the regional appellation. A village name narrows the origin to a recognised commune, while premier cru and grand cru identify ranked vineyard sites within Burgundy's classification system. The labels therefore move from broad regional origin to specific village and vineyard designations.
Wines
The range includes red and white wines. Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Pinot Noir Les Ursulines is a Bourgogne red, while Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Chardonnay Les Ursulines and Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Aligoté Les Moutots are white wines at regional appellation level. Pinot Noir supplies the red grape, while Chardonnay and Aligoté supply the named white wines.
Village and premier cru bottles narrow the address: Jean-Claude Boisset Nuits-Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Aux Chaignots Jean-Claude Boisset, Jean-Claude Boisset Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Charmes, Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru Aux Serpentières Jean-Claude Boisset, and Santenay Premier Cru La Maladière Jean-Claude Boisset. Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is the grand cru bottle in the range.
Final Word
Jean-Claude Boisset links a Nuits-Saint-Georges winery in a former Ursulines convent with Burgundy wines that extend from regional Bourgogne labels to Clos de la Roche Grand Cru.
