The Producer
When Magnus Oskarsson and his partner purchased the property in 2009, the first 1,200 Solaris vines went into Vombsänkan's clay-mixed sandy soil. Flyinge Vingård is a family-run estate. The vineyard now covers two hectares and holds 9,500 Solaris vines alongside 500 Rondo vines.
The estate has been KRAV-certified since 2018. Its natural farming and vinification philosophy aims to develop distinct wines from the growing site. The winery was completed in time for a record harvest, allowing Flyinge to make several different wines.
Place
Flyinge lies in inland Skåne, about fifteen kilometres east of Lund, in Eslöv Municipality. The site lacks the moderating influence of the sea. The vineyard sits in Vombsänkan, with clay and sand beneath a 30-centimetre topsoil layer.
The low position brings abundant groundwater, so the vineyard required a drainage system. The ground and water conditions define the practical work before the grapes reach the cellar.
Wines
The range uses the Pegasus name and emblem, linked to Flyinge's equestrian history. Pegasus Stål, Pegasus Ambra and Pegasus Solera are the central named wines.
Pegasus Ambra 2022 is a Solaris white with an orange colour and slight cloudiness. It brings very fresh fruit, slight astringency, cloudberry, spices, dried apple, straw, sea buckthorn and apricot. Pegasus Solera is very fresh with oak character, showing yellow apple, spice, grapefruit, vanilla and Galia melon.
A Bottle To Understand It
Choose Pegasus Stål 2021. It is a white Solaris wine with pear, grapefruit, gooseberry, honeydew melon, peach, fresh herbs and lime. The palate is lively and compact, with energetic fruit, pithiness and a defined acid line. The bottle combines the grape with a clearly marked fresh acidity and a compact palate.
Final Word
Flyinge Vingård farms a low, groundwater-rich site in Vombsänkan and presents its wines under Pegasus, the winged horse emblem linked to Flyinge's equestrian history.
