The Producer

An old farm built in 1817 is the base of Flädie Mat & Vingård. Restaurateur Nils-Bertil Hansson converted it into a hospitality and conference centre in 2003. The wine operation includes approximately 9,000 vines, with roughly half planted to Rondo and the balance made up of Solaris, Phoenix and Cabernet Cortis.

Farming at Flädie is organic. In 2024, Portuguese winemaker Gonçalo Santos was handling the winemaking after working in the Algarve. The range moves between fresh Solaris whites, oak influenced wines, rosé, sparkling wine and sweet wine.

Place

Flädie sits just outside Lund in Skåne, at Flädie Mejeriväg 19 in Bjärred. The wines carry the Lomma kommun appellation.

Assmåsa is the linked second vineyard. Fruit from the two sites may be combined in one wine, while other wines use fruit from one vineyard alone.

Story

In 2020, the coronavirus crisis pushed Flädie’s hospitality business into bankruptcy. Håkan and Carina Wikholm purchased Flädie and linked it with Assmåsa, where they had planted 20,000 vines on seven hectares in 2018. Only half of that vineyard was in production at the time.

The two vineyards now supply different kinds of bottles. Some wines are blends of fruit from Flädie and Assmåsa, while others come exclusively from one site.

Vineyards And Cellar

Flädie farms organically and maintains experimental plantings alongside its main grape varieties. The winery also uses some oak barrels from Skåne.

The producer’s Aniara wine is fermented and stored in steel tanks, then bottled in the spring after harvest. Aniara Barrique uses Caucasian or French oak of different ages and spends six to nine months in barrel. Steel keeps the vessel character neutral, while oak can add spice, vanilla and a broader texture as the wine ages.

All Flädie sparkling wines use the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and ageing on the yeast sediment. The sediment can add texture and breadlike notes while the bottle fermentation creates the wine’s mousse.

Wines

The range covers sparkling, white, rosé, red and sweet wines. The white wines include Aniara Renässans 2024, Morgonbris Barrique 2024 and Midnattssol. The rosé wines use Rondo, Cabernet Cortis and Leon Millot.

The white range includes both very fresh wines and bottles with oak character. Sparkling wines follow the traditional method, while the broader production reaches from dry styles to sweet wine.

In The Glass

Aniara Renässans 2024 is very fresh and somewhat aromatic, with green apple, gooseberry, yellow pear, honeydew melon, white flowers and lime. Its acidity keeps the fruit clear and brisk.

Morgonbris Barrique 2024 is very fresh with marked oak character, showing yellow apple, browned butter, spice, lemon and vanilla. Midnattssol is also very fresh and oak influenced, with peach, spice, yellow apple, vanilla, beeswax and grilled lemon.

Across these whites, Solaris brings bright fruit and acidity, while oak adds spice, vanilla and a fuller texture.

A Bottle To Understand It

Aniara Renässans 2024 is the bottle to open first. It is a Solaris white carrying the Lomma kommun appellation. Its label places one named grape beside the producer’s local appellation, while the surrounding range adds oak influenced whites, rosé, sparkling and sweet styles.

Anecdote

In 2007, Martin Hansson planted vines at Flädie. The first two vintages were made through a wine cooperative, and Flädie opened its own winery in 2012. The sequence moved the operation from planted vines and outside cellar work to wine made on the property. Martin’s vineyard planting became the beginning of a separate wine operation alongside the farm’s hospitality business.

Final Word

Flädie Vingård och Vinproduktion is a Skåne producer with Solaris whites, Rondo based rosés, traditional method sparkling wine and bottles that draw on Flädie, Assmåsa or both vineyards.
