The Producer
Famille Quiot brings together properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Provence and the southern Rhône. Florence and her brother Jean-Baptiste operate and manage all the properties. The group includes Domaine Houchart and Château du Trignon, with Domaine Houchart producing red, white and rosé wines.
Place
Near Puyloubier, at the foot of Sainte-Victoire mountain, Domaine Houchart sits on poor soils of limestone and clayey sandstone. The grapes ripen later there than elsewhere in Côtes de Provence, giving the wines characteristic freshness. The estate was acquired in 1890 with 60 hectares and has since expanded to 90 hectares.
Château du Trignon was acquired by the Quiot family in 2006. Its vineyards span seven southern Rhône appellations: Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Beaumes de Venise, Côtes du Rhône, Plan de Dieu and Sablet.
Wines
Domaine Houchart produces wines in all three Provence colors. The named bottles include Domaine Houchart Côtes de Provence Rosé and Château du Trignon Rosé. Château du Trignon Rasteau is a red made from Grenache and Mourvèdre, placing a two grape blend within the Rasteau appellation.
Final Word
Famille Quiot's wines bring Provence's three colors and southern Rhône appellations into one family portfolio.
