The Producer
Xavier Perrin is the fifth generation working Domaine Roger Perrin's vineyards, continuing Luc Perrin's viticultural and vinification practices. Roger Perrin formed the domaine in 1969 after his father-in-law chose to retire. The estate works within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, producing both red and white wine.
Place
Domaine Roger Perrin's Châteauneuf-du-Pape holdings cover 15.63 hectares, divided across 61 separate parcels. Of that area, 13.6 hectares are devoted to red wine and 2 hectares to white wine. The appellation therefore contains both sides of the domaine's production within one address.
Wines
The wines include Châteauneuf-du Pape Roger Perrin 2022, Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve Vieilles Vignes and Côtes du Rhône Prestige Blanc. The 2022 red contains 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah.
Reserve Vieilles Vignes contains 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. Much of its Grenache comes from vines over 100 years old. The cuvée is produced in 650 cases per vintage and aged in 30% new French oak barrels and older oak casks for about 12 months.
Côtes du Rhône Prestige Blanc is a white wine with bright notes of apricot, pear and cream, finishing with citrus and wax.
Final Word
Domaine Roger Perrin uses traditional cement vats, foudres, used oak barrels and about 15% new French oak barrels, with wines spending an average of 15 months before bottling.
