The Producer
Domaine Michel Prunier et Fille cultivates 12 hectares and commercialises about 40,000 bottles each year. Estelle Prunier works alongside her parents in vineyard management and production, continuing a family domaine whose cellars reach back to the 17th century. The wines come from village appellations across Bourgogne, with the range shaped by several commune names rather than one single vineyard address.
Place
The vineyards run through the village appellations of Auxey-Duresses, Meursault, Volnay, Pommard, Beaune and Chorey-lès-Beaune. A village AOC names a commune on the label, giving each wine a geographic address within Bourgogne. Auxey-Duresses is also the commune named on the domaine's red wine.
Wines
The named bottle is Prunier Auxey-Duresses Rouge 2021, a red wine carrying the Côte de Beaune appellation. The 2020 vintage was superb and suited to ageing, with considerable body. Spring frost reduced volumes in the later vintage, giving the two harvests different production conditions.
In The Glass
Fresh dark plums rise from the glass. Silky tannins give the palate a smooth texture, while wood spice adds backbone through the finish.
A Bottle To Understand It
Choose the Auxey-Duresses Rouge. The label gives one commune name and one red wine, set against a domaine that also works through other named village appellations. It offers a direct introduction to the way this family domaine connects its wines to Bourgogne place names.
Final Word
Domaine Michel Prunier et Fille keeps its wines tied to named Bourgogne communes, with Auxey-Duresses Rouge as its clearest named red.
