The Producer
From the hamlet of Corcelette in Morgon, Daniel Bouland manages less than 7 hectares of old vines. His primary parcels are Douby, Côte de Py and Delys, with additional small holdings in Chiroubles and Côte de Brouilly.
Critics recognize Daniel Bouland as one of Beaujolais's major and most consistent talents. All the grapes are harvested by hand on steep slopes where mechanical equipment cannot operate. His wines can age 20 years.
Place
The domaine's vineyards span Morgon, Chiroubles and Côte de Brouilly. Morgon contains the main holdings, including Douby, Côte de Py and Delys, while the smaller parcels extend into the two other Beaujolais crus.
This spread puts named vineyard places at the centre of the domaine's work. Delys was planted in 1926, giving one of the Morgon parcels a century of vine history.
Wines
Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Mélanie Daniel Bouland is a red wine from the 2024 vintage. It offers nuanced, spicy berry flavours with lingonberry, wild raspberry, fresh herbs, violet, mineral and licorice notes.
The bottle sits alongside a domaine whose vineyard holdings include Morgon, Chiroubles and Côte de Brouilly parcels. Its Côte de Brouilly name marks the hill based origin of the wine within that wider set of Beaujolais holdings.
Final Word
Domaine Daniel Bouland combines hand harvested old vines with named parcels across Morgon, Chiroubles and Côte de Brouilly. The wines finish with a marked stony character and can age 20 years.
