The Producer

Tessa Laroche runs Domaine aux Moines as a second generation vigneronne. The domaine earned organic certification by Eco-cert in 2011, giving its family continuity a clearly defined farming framework.

The estate is associated with Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines, a white wine appellation whose name also identifies the domaine's principal wine. Its cellar uses indigenous yeasts, tank ageing and mostly used casks.

Place

The Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines appellation encompasses just 35 hectares eligible for production. Tessa Laroche controls perhaps a quarter of its vineyard area.

The appellation name marks a tightly bounded vineyard area, while Domaine aux Moines occupies a substantial share of the ground within it. The place is therefore expressed through a specific appellation rather than a broad regional label.

Wines

Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines 2022 is a white wine from the domaine. Harvesting takes place in five to six pickings spread across several weeks, and fermentation uses indigenous yeasts. Ageing uses 65 to 75 percent tank, with the remainder in 220 and 400 liter casks, mostly used. Bottling follows around 15 to 16 months after harvest.

The 2022 is lively and fresh, with pear, quince, limeflower and citrus in the aroma. Ripe apple, subtle pastry and herbal notes join a deep white fruit register. Vibrant acidity and minerality run through the palate, alongside citrus blossom and floral honey.

Final Word

Domaine aux Moines joins a tightly bounded Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines appellation to Tessa Laroche's second generation stewardship. Its white wine is made through slow harvesting, indigenous yeast fermentation and ageing in tank and used cask.
