The Producer
Three generations of the Chaudière family operate Château Pesquié in the Ventoux appellation. Quintessence Red is made from Syrah and Grenache.
Whole cluster fermentation keeps stems with the grapes. Gentle extraction limits the force used to draw colour and tannin from the skins. The wines age in neutral large barrels and concrete tanks instead of new oak, keeping oak flavour out of the finished wine. Quintessence Red is complex and powerful, with velvety tannins.
Place
Mont Ventoux's elevation and Mistral wind influence create cool night temperatures around the vineyards. The site belongs to one of the coolest microclimates in the southern Rhône Valley. The finished wines carry a fresh profile associated with this cool terroir.
Wines
Quintessence Château Pesquié 2023 is the red Ventoux wine in the range. Made from Syrah and Grenache, Quintessence Red has a complex, powerful profile with velvety tannins.
The range also includes white and rosé wines. Quintessence Blanc is rich, while Quintessence Rosé is positioned as a gastronomic wine. The bottles move from a dense red to a rich white and a food focused rosé.
Final Word
At Château Pesquié, the Chaudière family makes Quintessence Red from Syrah and Grenache at the foot of Mont Ventoux. Whole cluster fermentation, gentle extraction and neutral ageing vessels shape the red wine's dense character and velvety tannins.
