The Producer

At Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne Michel Rocourt makes only Blanc de Blancs champagnes from Premier Cru and Grand Cru locations. The house is led by Florence Grzeszczak, and its work combines family knowledge passed from father to daughter with tradition and modernity. HVE environmental certification has been part of the work since 2018.

Place

Le Mesnil-sur-Oger sits in the Côte des Blancs, the Champagne region associated with Blanc de Blancs production. The producer's Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is associated with Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, while its Premier Cru locations are Vertus, Villeneuve and Voipreux.

Premier Cru and Grand Cru are Champagne vineyard classifications. Here, the two levels separate the locations within the range.

Wines

The range has two cru levels, both in Blanc de Blancs. The Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs includes a 2017 vintage bottling, aged in stainless steel tanks and produced in 21,000 bottles. Its nose is vivid and crisp, with citrus aromas.

A Premier Cru profile brings mature aromas of pastry, milk jam, coconut, rum and mirabelle, followed by a full, generous palate and long finish. The Premier Cru Brut carries a dosage of 8 grams per liter and 12.0% alcohol.

The Grand Cru is made in approximately 1,500 bottles annually. It shows floral and yeast aromas, a soft palate, walnuts and dried fruit.

Final Word

Champagne Michel Rocourt makes Blanc de Blancs at two Champagne vineyard levels, with the Premier Cru aged in tank and the Grand Cru produced in a small annual volume.
