Wessex

Wessex spans Hampshire's chalk, Wiltshire's valleys, Dorset's Jurassic Coast terrain and the Isle of Wight's microclimate. Traditional-method sparkling wine leads production, while Bacchus and other still-wine varieties, along with trials of Tempranillo and Viognier, add to the region's range.

Producer coverage

No producers listed yet

We do not yet list a producer in Wessex. The region guide, map and nearby wine places remain open to explore.

Wessex is one of WineGB's six regional vineyard associations, with a maritime climate and a varied setting. Hampshire has deep chalk soils, Wiltshire broad valleys, Dorset Jurassic Coast terrain, and the Isle of Wight its own microclimate.

Traditional-method sparkling wine accounts for most production and is made principally from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Still wines also come from Bacchus, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Seyval Blanc and Cabernet Noir. Some growers are trying Tempranillo and Viognier, while vineyards across the region have been making wine for decades.
