Around Beltiug, Rătești and Ardud, hundreds of cellars are cut into the hillsides in two or three overlapping layers. Crișana & Maramureș brings together Crișana and Miniș in northwestern Romania. Crișana lies between the Mureș, Someș and Tisa rivers and the Apuseni Mountains, and nearby wine centres have different conditions. Long, warm autumns favour red grapes, while foggy, damp valley mornings are linked with fruity aromas in white grapes.
Fetească albă, Fetească regală, Pinot gris and Mustoasă de Măderat are among the local whites. Cadarcă is the native red most closely associated with Crișana, alongside Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The region ranges from fresh, aromatic whites to more structured reds in warmer, sunnier areas. In the foothills of the Zarandul Mountains, Miniș makes sparkling wines and white still wines with higher acidity that can develop over time.
