Within Crișana & Maramureș, the vineyards of Crișana lie between the Mureș, Someș and Tisa rivers and the Apuseni Mountains. Conditions vary from foggy, damp valleys to warmer, sunnier sites with long autumns. Around Beltiug, Rătești and Ardud, hundreds of cellars are cut into the hillsides in two or three overlapping layers. White grapes include Fetească albă, Fetească regală, Pinot gris and Mustoasă de Măderat. Cadarcă is a local red variety, grown alongside Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines range from fresh, aromatic whites to reds with firmer tannin. In the foothills of the Zarandul Mountains, Miniș also makes sparkling wines and still whites with high acidity that can develop over time.
