Wine has been part of Lower Silesia since the thirteenth century. In the nineteenth century, the Jelenia Góra Valley of Castles was reported to have about 700 hectares available for winegrowing, long before Poland's recent revival.
The Trzebnica Hills form a distinct wine area in the north. Winnica Silesian grows Solaris, red Riesling and Cuvée on granite-laden soil. Winnica 55-100 focuses on Muscaris, Solaris and Regent, while Adoria works with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Jadwiga makes natural wines and Pet Nat, a natural sparkling wine, with hand harvesting and minimal chemical use. One Lower Silesian Chardonnay has been described with vanilla and hot buttered toast notes, a medium body, and a resemblance to polished white Burgundy.
