Pcinja Osogovo sits in northeastern North Macedonia, east of the country's central wine region and near Bulgaria. It is the country's most mountainous wine region, with vineyards mainly on slopes between 440 and 850 metres.
The temperate continental climate is cooler than those of North Macedonia's central and eastern wine regions, and strong northern winds are common. Summers average 110 days above 25°C, though drought is rare during the growing season. Vineyards grow in diluvial, cinnamon and brown soils over limestone.
Red and white grapes are both grown here. Traditional reds include Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay Noir, Gamay Teinturier, Pinot Noir and Vranec. Muscat Ottonel, Riesling, Sipon, Sauvignon Blanc and Zilavka are among the whites. The region includes Kumanovo, Kratovo and Pijanec.
