Producer coverage

No producers listed yet

We do not yet list a producer in Zacatecas. The region guide, map and nearby wine places remain open to explore.

Wine was already an important item in Zacatecas's sixteenth-century market, ranking after meat, wheat and maize. Today, around 3,500 hectares are planted to grapes, mostly for industrial and table use, and Zacatecas is described as Mexico's second-largest producer of industrial grapes.

The vineyards lie around 2,000 metres above sea level in north-central Mexico's dry, semi-desert conditions. At one cited site, 2,200 metres of elevation, clay- and mineral-rich soils, and a 15°C day-night range are associated with good acidity, intense colour, and concentrated aromas and flavours. Plantings include Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet, Malbec and Nebbiolo. New wine projects and an enotourism route are becoming established.
