The Ionian Islands are a wine region spread across several islands, though Kefalonia is its leading producer. Robola is the island's indigenous white grape, grown high in the Kefalonian highlands around Mount Ainos. The wines are aromatic and high in acidity, with citrus and mineral notes. Robola of Kefalonia is a PDO, alongside the PGI zones of Plagies Ainos and Mantzavinata.

Kefalonia also produces Mavrodafni and Moschato. Mavrodafni is a local red variety; examples from Paliki can be deeply coloured and firm with tannin, ripe forest-fruit aromas and room to age. Dry versions may show herbal notes. Moschatos Kefallinias grows in Katogi, where a Vatsa Moschato receives skin contact for more body and density. Contemporary producers also include organic and biodynamic approaches.
