Arbois is Jura's broadest appellation, with whites, reds and oxidative wines all under one name. Chardonnay and Savagnin appear in topped-up whites, kept away from air, and oxidative wines aged with exposure to oxygen, including Vin Jaune. Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir make reds that can be pale, spicy and earthy. Its village sites lie on limestone and marl, and the range of sites leaves room for very different producer styles.
