Northern Alsace follows the Bas-Rhin wine route around Marlenheim, Molsheim, Barr and Andlau. Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc have a larger role here than farther south, and much of Alsace's Crémant d'Alsace is made in this stretch. Above Andlau, the grand cru sites of Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg and Moenchberg grow Riesling. The wines tend to be fresher and lighter than those from central and southern Alsace, often with mineral notes.
