Krasochoria Lemesou means "wine villages." The name suits this dry area on the southern slopes of the Troodos mountains, where a wine route joins 20 named villages and settlements with a long history of viticulture.
Xynisteri is the principal white grape, while Mavro is the principal red. Cooler temperatures at higher altitudes can improve Xynisteri quality. Its wines may show lemon, peach and white-plum flavours, while oak can bring spicier, nuttier notes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Grenache and Syrah are grown here too.
Xynisteri now appears as lees-aged, oak-aged, sparkling, orange and single-vineyard wines. Krasochoria Lemesou is a Protected Designation of Origin wine name, registered with the European Union on 17 February 2006.
