Afames

East of the Ha-Potami River, Afames forms part of Cyprus's Krasochoria wine-growing area. Its vineyards lie at 750 metres and above. Mavro and Maratheftiko are red grapes grown here, while Xynisteri makes whites with refreshing acidity.

Afames lies east of the Ha-Potami River in Cyprus's Limassol wine villages, collectively known as Krasochoria. Defined at 750 metres and above, it includes Vouni, Kilani, Mandria and Omodos. Mavro and Maratheftiko make red wines, including robust styles with ageing potential. Xynisteri is the white grape associated with crisp wines here. Labels may carry the protected name Krasochoria Lemesou, with or without Afames. The official equivalent is Krasohoria Lemesou - Afames.
