Istria & Kvarner brings together Hrvatska Istra, Hrvatsko primorje and Muškat momjanski on Croatia's northern Adriatic side. In Istria, Alpine and Mediterranean air meet over red terra rossa near the coast and clay-white soils farther inland. Big shifts between day and night help concentrate grape aromas.
Malvazija istarska is Istria's leading white grape. Basic examples are straw-yellow, floral and moderately fresh. Teran is the region's characteristic red, making fresh, ruby-coloured wines with lively fruit scents. Kvarner's Mediterranean climate and ocean air are behind wines described as fresh, easy to drink and clear in their grape character. Hrvatsko primorje's Žlahtina is gentle and low in alcohol, with apple, ripe citrus, meadow-herb and floral notes. Muškat momjanski is an intensely aromatic Muscat associated with Momjan and Buje, and may appear as Moscato di Momiano.
