Serra da Mantiqueira sits in the foothills of the Mantiqueira range, around the boundary between southern Minas Gerais and São Paulo. Elevation and moderate temperatures shape the growing season. Because seasonal rain falls at harvest time, growers use dupla poda, two annual pruning operations that move the harvest from the rainy season into winter.

Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc are the predominant grapes in the region's reported wines. The range includes dry red, white and rosé wines, plus sparkling wine. Sauvignon Blanc can show passion fruit and citrus, with high freshness and acidity; winter-harvest examples may also bring floral and rue aromas. Syrah can show red fruit, spice, intensity and good body. Serra da Mantiqueira names both the mountain region and the wine-growing territory around it.
